Garden Mother with Bees

This is when the magic got my attention! I created geli plate papers and collaged them onto a small 8×10 inch canvas – When I had the papers glued down and stepped back, I clearly saw a bumble bee (maybe because I love my bumble bees), so this painting emerged from that first collage of green gold and transparent red iron oxide tissue papers. I photographed it and sent it to an artist friend who noticed the figure in the back (I didn’t even see it!) – and when I stood back and looked, I realized the figure looks like a garden gnome my mom had given me years ago. I will post a photo of that gnome when the snow melts and I can get into my shed again! This is a mixed-media collage on stretched canvas. The bees and flowers are layers of colored pencil, watercolor, aquarelle pastels, and Posca pens.
