Perfect Ice Cream Shades

on

It’s almost ice-cream season, and I wanted to do a fun card with my ice-cream themed cutting dies. I have two sets: One from HoneyBee Stamps (Lovely Layers Cupcakes & More) and another random set I picked up somewhere else (not sure where – could have been a yard sale). The two completed cones were done with my Ohuhu markers, but I wasn’t happy with the blends or the colors, so I moved to my Altenew Fresh Dye Inks and Distress Inks. These are my notes on colors that worked (as seen in the individual/unassembled examples). The links are just for convenience – I am not an affiliate – and these are really just my own notes on what worked best for me – if they help you, that’s a bonus!

Perfect Cone Colors (Middle Cone on Left, and Top Row and two triangle cones): Altenew Crisp Dye Inks in Hazelnut and Vanilla Cream on top layer of cone cutout. Underlayer cone is done in Hazelnut and Almond Butter.

Perfect Pistachio Color (Top Scoop) – Altenew Fresh Dye Ink in Silver Sage, Frayed Leaf, and Eucalyptus.

Perfect Strawberries and Cream Colors (Second from Top Scoop): Ranger Ink Distress Oxide Ink in Spun Sugar all over. Light layers of Altenew Fresh Dye Ink in Frosty Pink (for a melon colored shift), Rose Quartz, and Puffy Heart for the darkest parts. Strawberry pieces are Prismacolor Pencil in PC1030 (Raspberry), PC 926 (Scarlet Lake) then blended with PC929 (Pink) and shadowed with PC 993.

Mint Chocolate Chip (Middle Scoop): Altenew Fresh Dye Ink in Dew Drops, Seaglass, and Jade for midtones. Lightest area is Altenew Fresh Dye Ink in Silver Sage (used this all over as a base layer, keeping it lightest for highlight, then brushed the darker tones over it). Chips are Prismacolor Colored Pencils in PC 948 (Sepia), PC 1082 (Chocolate), and shadow is PC920 (Light Green)

Perfect Caramel/dark vanilla colors (Second from bottom scoop): Same as cone colors with a light layer of Altenew Crisp Dye Ink in Pumpkin Pie for the darkest areas.

Dark Chocolate Scoops and Ice Cream Bar (Bottom Scoop): Altenew Crisp Dye Ink in Milk Chocolate and Fresh Dye Ink in Paperbag and Almond Butter (for lightest areas); Distress Ink in Gathered Twigs (deeper tone) and Walnut Stain (darkest areas).
